Feat X Feet Provides Students The Opportunity To Be Part Of A Pre-Professional Tap Performing Company.
Ashley Smith founded Feat x Feet Tap School and Youth Tap Ensemble in 1997 and serves as the artistic director/ choreographer of this non-profit organization and produces an annual Feat x Feet show each January and June.
After owning her own dance school and teaching tap, ballet, and jazz she chose to specialize in TAP.
Ashley has traveled to New Orleans, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City to study with the tap legends to better educate herself and her students on tap.
Feat x Feet members study with Smith on a weekly basis and attend Montana Dance Arts Association workshops annually where they have been awarded over 30 educational tap scholarships and travel to tap festivals across the country. In 2012 three FxF members were selected from a nationwide audition to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington. D.C. Each summer. Since 2007, Ashley and tap professional Derick K Grant have teamed up and offered an annual tap festival and performance for one week each June in Whitefish.
Ashley holds a degree in business with a minor in Japanese and dance and a Master of Science in Human Resource Management. She has served with Montana Dance Association as a board member, president, secretary and scholarship chair. She donated the dance studio at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish for use by Feat x Feet as well as many other community uses. Ashley and her four boys Zander. Keegan. Bode and Decker are pleased to call Whitefish their home.
